In the post-pandemic world, healthcare institutions must invest in special pathogen responses to maximize patient safety. The purpose of this study was to ascertain predictors related to post-pandemic preparedness for special pathogens. Having a special pathogens team and being located in a large metropolitan area were the strongest predictors of perceived preparedness. In this survey of 31 hospitals, large metropolitan facilities had 9.5-fold odds of reporting preparedness for special pathogens; hospitals with special pathogens teams had a 14.3-fold odds of reporting preparedness for special pathogens.
